The BMW M2 has long been regarded as the spiritual successor to the original E30 M3, thanks to its compact, two-door design and high-performance engineering. With a starting price of $65,500 in the U.S., the M2 is the entry-level model in BMW’s M GmbH lineup, yet it packs a serious punch. The latest facelift boosted its 3.0-liter M TwinPower Turbo inline-six to 473 horsepower, matching the base M3 Sedan, which costs significantly more at $76,700.

Having debuted in 2015, the first-generation M2 replaced the BMW 1 Series Coupe. The second generation arrived in late 2022 and recently received a 2025 model year refresh, mainly increasing power by 20 hp. However, BMW enthusiasts craving something more extreme won’t have to wait much longer—sources confirm that a track-focused 2026 BMW M2 CS is on the way.

Wilco Blok has already captured camouflaged M2 CS prototypes, and Avarvarii’s latest renderings provide a near-production look at what’s coming. Expected to sit above the M2 Competition, the M2 CS will bring a host of performance-oriented upgrades, including:

  • New lightweight wheels
  • Carbon-ceramic brakes
  • Larger rear spoiler
  • Aggressive front splitter
  • Carbon-fiber roof

Avarvarii claims his digital interpretation is 95% accurate, giving enthusiasts a strong preview of the production model.

Power, Weight Reduction, and Pure RWD Thrills

While official specs remain under wraps, reports suggest the 2026 M2 CS could deliver up to 525 horsepower. It will retain rear-wheel drive (RWD), but unlike previous M2 models, it will likely only be available with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission—no manual option in sight.

Weight-saving measures will play a big role in the M2 CS’s performance. Expect:

  • Lighter front seats
  • Optional rear-seat delete
  • Alcantara-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel
  • Full leather interior

With its blend of increased power, improved aerodynamics, and reduced weight, the 2026 BMW M2 CS is shaping up to be the most hardcore and expensive version of the M2 lineup. Enthusiasts will be watching closely as BMW prepares for its official reveal.
